A urinalysis is the examination of the urine. The urine is chemically tested for ten substances that can provide information on kidney function, urinary tract infections, diabetes, and other conditions. The urine may also be examined under a microscope to look for bacteria or other organisms, cells of various types and structures known as "formed elements" that can give additional clinical information.
