Foster Grandparent Program

The Foster Grandparent Program is a national volunteer program that provides older Americans the opportunity to put their life experiences to work helping children in their communities.

Foster Grandparents serve as mentors for at-risk children and youth in area schools, daycare centers, Head Start Centers, and after school programs. Volunteers become the classroom "grandparent" and serve a scheduled 15 - 40 hours of service each week, working one-on-one with students and children with special or exceptional needs.

The Program is open to people age 60 and older that live on a limited income and enjoy reasonably good health. Seniors who are over the income guidelines may participate as non-stipended volunteers.

Eligible volunteers receive:

  • Tax-free stipend of $2.65 / hour
  • Transportation reimbursement
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Meal at the site
  • Pre-service and monthly training
  • Yearly physical
  • Supplemental accident and liability insurance while on duty
  • Recognition and the knowledge that they are making a difference in the life of a child.
